Bruxism / Teeth Grinding
Bruxism / Teeth Grinding in Erin Mills, Oakville and Mississauga
Are you waking up in the morning with a sore jaw? Are you unable to open wide or are experiencing a locked jaw, or a migraine headache? You may be experiencing Bruxism.
Bruxism is a sleep disorder that involves involuntarily grinding or clenching of the teeth while sleeping.
Teeth grinding or clenching causes TMJ fatigue and damage to your teeth, the inside of your cheeks, and tongue.
What are the treatments?
Occlusal splints or dental night guards are commonly prescribed by your dentist as a treatment for bruxism.
Night guards are typically made of plastic or acrylic and can be hard or soft. They are custom made mouth guards that can be worn on the upper or lower arch at night when you are sleeping to help protect your teeth and TMJ from grinding.
