Dental Bridges
Dental Bridges in Erin Mills, Oakville & Mississauga
What is a bridge?
A bridge is a custom-fitted device which replaces one or more missing teeth. Bridges are anchored on either end to existing teeth with specially prepared crowns which help hold the bridge in place.
Why are bridges necessary?
Missing teeth need to be replaced to prevent the eventual movement of remaining teeth; this can lead to malocclusion and/or periodontal disease. Bridges also help prevent unnatural stress on other teeth and enhance your smile, chewing, and speech.
How is the treatment performed?
- We’ll schedule several essential appointments for you beginning with an exam, review of your dental history and x-rays.
- We’ll prepare your teeth for the bridge and take an impression of the area involved.
- Impression will then be sent to a dental lab that will custom make your bridge.
- We’ll fit and cement the final bridge and make any necessary adjustments.
Care for your bridge
Treat your new bridge as you would other teeth. Brush twice a day, floss once daily and keep regular dental care appointments. Avoid sticky foods like caramels, gum, and taffy, as well as crunchy foods like hard candy and don’t chew ice. Remember it’s essential to clean around crowns, and under the bridge, to maintain good oral hygiene and protect your investment.
